Engineering Manager (m/w/d) – Large Scale Projects

Our Client
An established chemical group headquartered in North Rhine-Westphalia with production sites worldwide. The Global Engineering organisation is responsible for managing the company's capital investment portfolio, executing major projects on the owner's side with investment volumes exceeding EUR 300 million. The organisation combines in-house engineering expertise with contracted EPC and engineering partners while retaining full technical authority over design basis, standards and technical approvals.
Your Responsibilities
- •Hold overall responsibility for engineering delivery across all project phases: FEED, detail engineering, procurement and construction support
- •Establish and manage the project engineering organisation: resource planning, staffing, definition of roles, responsibilities and interdisciplinary interfaces
- •Define and enforce technical design basis including corporate standards, specifications, design criteria, international codes and local regulatory requirements
- •Provide technical steering and supervision of EPC and engineering contractors: scope definition, bid evaluation, deliverable review and approval, technical change management
- •Monitor engineering progress, man-hours utilisation, deliverable status and schedule adherence; report regularly to Project Director
- •Manage technical interfaces between engineering disciplines, licensors, equipment suppliers, construction and operations teams
- •Ensure full compliance with HSE requirements, local codes, permitting procedures and authority approvals in the host country
- •Support procurement activities: requisition technical specifications, vendor clarifications, document reviews and factory acceptance tests
- •Provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning phases including field engineering, technical queries resolution and handover to operating organisation
- •Manage engineering budget and cost forecasts; assess change orders and contractor claims from a technical perspective
- •Establish comprehensive documentation, as-built records and knowledge transfer protocols to the operating organisation
Your Profile
- •Degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable discipline
- •Minimum 10 years of professional experience in engineering and execution of chemical plant projects
- •Minimum 5 years as Engineering Manager on chemical plant construction projects with investment volume above EUR 50 million
- •Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in international, multicultural environments
- •Demonstrated experience in technical management of EPC and engineering contractors on major capital projects
- •Business-fluent English, spoken and written
- •Willingness and capability to accept multi-year expatriate assignment to Middle East project location
- •Assertive and solution-oriented approach with strong negotiation skills in contractor and vendor relationships
- •Structured, disciplined methodology for engineering control, documentation and reporting
- •German language skills (advantageous)
